Job summary

Durham County is seeking a Senior Library Assistant (Bookmobile) to join the Library team, supporting preschool and elementary readers through outreach and programs. The role reports to the Family Literacy and Community Services Manager and involves community-based service across Durham County.

This full-time position requires a valid NC driver's license, the ability to operate a 22' x 14' x 10' Sprinter Bookmobile, and a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited community college with study in library science or related field
• Two years of general library services experience
• Valid NC Driver’s License and clean driving record
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and work a flexible schedule including weekends

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service in the team-based environment of the Family Literacy and Community Services unit
• Outreach and programs at events to promote literacy
• Deliver mobile outreach to daycare facilities, schools, and communities
• Assist with library circulation duties and account setup
• Drive the Bookmobile and County vehicles as needed
• Coordinate with Family Literacy and Community Services unit to support services for children and families
