Job summary

St. David's South Austin Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Transplant and Cellular Therapy (TCT) unit.

The 24-bed inpatient unit provides stem cell transplants, CAR-T cell therapy, and participates in clinical trials. You will care for blood and marrow transplant patients and those with hematologic and oncologic disorders, coordinating pre-admission workups, patient education, and long‑term follow‑up with an interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in transplant services.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in case management or utilization management.
  • BSN degree preferred; accredited nursing school graduate.

  • Maintain care for a maximum of four patients in an acute-care setting.
  • Monitor patients and families for physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs; refer to appropriate team members.
  • Coordinate pre-admission work-up and visits; present to transplant physician.
  • Collaborate with providers to establish a plan of care and oversee NMDP processes.
  • Coordinate transfer of care and conduct long-term follow-up after transplantation.

Job Summary

Registered Nurse (RN) on the Transplant and Cellular Therapy (TCT) unit at St. David's South Austin Medical Center responsible for the care of blood and marrow transplant patients, patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders, oncological emergencies, and other patients meeting admission criteria. The unit is a 24‑bed inpatient facility that provides stem cell transplants, CAR‑T cell therapy, and clinical trials, and it is the only FACT–accredited facility in Austin, Texas.

Responsibilities
  • Provide bedside care to blood and marrow transplant patients, hematologic and oncologic disorder patients, and oncological emergencies.
  • Maintain care for a maximum of four patients in an acute‑care setting.
  • Monitor patients and families before, during, and after transplantation for physical, emotional, psychosocial, and financial needs; refer to appropriate team members and community resources.
  • Coordinate patient and donor pre‑admission work‑up and visits; gather all pertinent clinical information and present it to the transplant physician.
  • Collaborate with health‑care providers to establish a plan of care, facilitate continuity across departments and home‑health providers, and oversee NMDP processes as needed.
  • Coordinate the transfer of care from the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program back to the referring physician and conduct long‑term follow‑up, including updates on condition, follow‑up visits, and post‑discharge services; assist in collecting engraftment and other post‑transplant data for submission.
Program Highlights
  • Only facility in Austin offering a Very Immunocompromised Program (VIP), promptly identifying and treating immunocompromised oncology patients arriving in the ER.
  • Inpatient team that works closely with the Outpatient Cancer Care Clinic.
  • Specialized educator support for new hires with continued education through the program.
  • Comprehensive interdisciplinary team, including designated physicians, APPs, social workers, dietitians, chaplains, nurse coordinators, and rehabilitation therapists.
  • Annual participation in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Fundraiser.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in transplant services.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in case management or utilization management.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current State of Texas RN license (or Compact RN license with Texas license obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David’s Healthcare policy.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification.
