Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. seeks an experienced Boilermaker to fabricate, assemble, maintain and repair steam-generating boilers and related systems. The role requires hands-on work with high-pressure boilers, tube rolling, welding, and boiler inspections to ensure safe plant operation.

Applicants should have proven boiler-tube skills, blueprint literacy, and the ability to work in confined spaces and at heights. OT may be required; safety procedures are mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with steam-generating boilers, boiler tubes, and pressure vessels.
  • Strong knowledge of boiler tube installation, rolling, expanding, and welding techniques.
  • Familiarity with ASME codes, standards, and power plant safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Skilled in using grinders, torches, hydraulic tube expanders, and pneumatic tools.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in hot environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, maintain, and repair steam-generating boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure components prior to assembly.
  • Cut, shape and fit metal components to construct and repair boiler tubes, drums, and headers.
  • Perform tube removal and tube replacement in boilers.
  • Use torches, welding equipment, and cutting tools for fabrication and repair tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and work performed.
  • Inspect boiler systems for cracks, leaks, corrosion, and other defects to ensure safety and quality standards.
  • Conduct hydrostatic and pressure testing on repaired and newly installed systems.
  • Preheat if necessary, using hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Work in various positions—flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other trades to complete projects efficiently.

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced Boilermaker with a strong background in the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of steam-generating boilers and associated boiler tube systems. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on expertise working with high‑pressure boilers, tube rolling, welding, and boiler inspections, ensuring safe and efficient plant operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Capable of laying out, positioning, aligning, and securing components prior to assembly.
  • Cut, shape and fit metal components to construct and repair boiler tubes, drums, and headers.
  • Perform tube removal and tube replacement in boilers.
  • Use torches, welding equipment, and cutting tools for fabrication and repair tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and work performed.
  • Inspect boiler systems for cracks, leaks, corrosion, and other defects to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Conduct hydrostatic and pressure testing on repaired and newly installed systems.
  • Preheat if necessary, using hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Ability to work in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces as well as at heights using a sky climber.
  • Adhere to all OSHA, ASME, and company safety standards while working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other skilled trades to complete projects efficiently.
  • Respiratory protection is common and may be required.
  • Physically able to meet job demands.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must wear safety gear, including protective goggles, masks, face shields and safety shoes.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co‑workers and understand direction from supervisor.
  • Utilize basic math and a calculator to solve geometric problems associated with Instrument Fitting.
  • May be required to work outside and be subject to severe weather as well.
  • Employee must be able to climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
  • Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check based on job location/requirements.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
