Job Summary: The Boiler Service Technician is responsible for performing a variety of both oil and propane HVAC system maintenance and repairs by communicating with homeowners and other members of the team. A key aspect of this role involves embracing and learning the company’s protocols, while also actively contributing expertise to enhance team knowledge. Given the significance of being the primary contact for clients, strong communication skills are imperative, aligning with the company’s top priority. This position operates independently and has no direct reports.

Primary Duties:

• Perform preventative maintenance on oil-fired heating systems and associated equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance on propane-fired heating systems and associated equipment.
• Piping and installing oil boilers and propane systems.
• Efficiently and accurately troubleshoot and diagnose non-operating systems.
• Performing any necessary repairs to previously installed systems.
• Create invoices for customers along with the MEP Manager and collect signatures for all service work.
• Keeping up to date with and working carefully to follow current safety regulations and requirements for the various systems the company installs and maintains.
• Providing information regarding HVAC system upkeep to clients.
• Maintain proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the service vehicle.
• Maintain company service vehicles including frequent interior and exterior cleaning, refueling, reporting any mechanical issues, and ensuring that they are corrected.
• Managing work order and purchase order processes as outlined by Relax & Co. protocols.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals.
• Strong knowledge of oil burner systems, oil tanks, and related piping systems.
• Strong knowledge of propane burner systems, propane tanks, and related piping systems.
• Knowledge of applicable installation and venting codes.
• Ability to use proper hand tools and power tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong customer service skills addressing current and potential customers.
• Must be patient, empathetic, and communicative.
• Must have a positive attitude.
• Must be accountable and self-motivated.
• Must be able to multitask, prioritize, and manage effectively.
• Must be able to uphold the highest level of confidentiality with client relationships.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn company software including Slack and Google Calendars/Docs/Sheets.
• Excellent communication and listening skills are necessary.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a formal apprenticeship with licensing.

Licenses:

• Valid driver's license.
• Oil license required.
• A propane license is recommended.

Physical Requirements:

• Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
• Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
• Physical strength when performing heavy labor is required. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time.
