Job description

Summary

Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as air compressors, generators, motors, turbines, and steam boilers to provide utilities like heat, blowers, and steam for industrial processes.

Essential Functions
  1. Read meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to monitor operational conditions. Record data such as equipment temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumption, water levels, and analysis of flue gases.
  2. Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to ensure equipment operates within prescribed ranges, switch to backup systems, or shut down equipment as needed.
  3. Visually inspect equipment periodically to detect malfunctions or the need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  4. Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components.

  6. Record operational and maintenance activities during shifts in the operator's logbook.
  7. Operate the boiler room 24/7, requiring rotating shifts. The plant observes vacation shutdowns.
  8. Handle communications through the boiler room when the switchboard in the office is shut down after hours.
