Job summary

ASRC Federal is seeking a lead HVAC Technician/Boiler Tender to operate and maintain boilers and HVAC systems, ensuring safe and efficient performance. The role involves repairing, overhauling, and servicing a range of heating, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment across industrial and residential settings.

The incumbent will work from plans and instructions, respond to after-hours call-outs, and coordinate with other trades while maintaining strict safety standards in a remote environment.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years’ verifiable experience as a HVAC technician or Boiler Tender.
• EPA Universal refrigerant card.
• Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Obtain an interim security clearance and maintain a secret clearance.
• Must pass a background check, drug screening, fingerprints, and a fit-for-duty physical exam; candidates must be medically cleared for long-term residency in a remote location with limited access to healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
• Bends and forms sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.
• Repairs, overhauls, maintain, and services industrial and residential HVAC systems, and refrigeration units.
• Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
• Repairs or replaces compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys.
• Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.
• Repairs components within a system including transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, PLC controls, and aqua stats.
• Responds to call-outs after normal working hours as needed.
• Assists other trades and crafts personnel in their daily operations, as directed.
• Acts as a member of the Emergency Response Team, as needed.
• Ensures proper housekeeping of jobsite, mechanical rooms, and shops.

Summary/General Description of Job

The incumbent serves as the lead of the HVAC section. Tends one or more boilers to produce steam or high-temperature water for use in an establishment. Fires boilers; observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation. The incumbent also performs repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units. As a working lead, the incumbent may perform all duties of the Boiler Tender/HVAC Mechanic as needed, as long as it does not interfere with administrative and safety responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

• Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools; cuts and threads pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
• Bends and forms sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.
• Repairs, overhauls, maintain, and services industrial and residential heating, ventilating, hydronic, and air conditioning systems, and refrigeration units. Troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and determines appropriate repairs.
• Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
• Repairs or replaces compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys. Services and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers. Repacks valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters and cleans coils as needed.
• Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.
• Repairs components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, PLC controls, and aqua stats.
• Performs duties on PL-1 resources under the direction of the MDA Liaison.
• Responds to call-outs after normal working hours as needed.
• Assists other trades and crafts personnel in their daily operations, as directed.
• Acts as a member of the Emergency Response Team, as needed.
• Ensures proper housekeeping of jobsite, mechanical rooms, and shops.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Lead Duties:

• Inspects crew work and assigned work areas to insure all work performed adheres to the Company and industry safety standards and practices.
• Monitors crew to ensure safety protective equipment and clothing is utilized
• Keeps supervisor apprised of mission status
• Directs and coordinates activities of the section
• Completes mission status reports as required
• Ensures work is scheduled and accomplished within established timelines
• Ensures subordinates time records reflect accurate hours worked on appropriate job activities
• Coordinates personnel TOS requests while maintaining mission requirement

Work Conditions:

• The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.
