Job summary

KDC-ONE is seeking a Stationary Engineer to safely operate and maintain its central utility systems within the Los Angeles facility. You will manage boilers, wastewater systems, water softeners, compressed air, HVAC, and related infrastructure, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, read blueprints, coordinate with vendors, keep detailed logs, and support outages or special projects.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid City of Los Angeles Steam Engineer's License (Boilers License).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating and maintaining industrial boilers and utility systems.
  • Experience performing industrial facility maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of steam generation, water treatment, HVAC, compressed air systems, pumps, motors, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, operating manuals, and technical documents.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

General Description

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the facility's central utility systems and building infrastructure. This role operates and maintains boilers, wastewater treatment systems, water softening equipment, compressed air systems, HVAC equipment, and other facility-related systems while ensuring compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements. In addition to boiler operations, the Stationary Engineer performs preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment and building systems to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations and maintain a safe working environment.

Essential Responsibilities And Duties
Boiler and Utility Operations
  • Operate, monitor, inspect, and maintain all power plant and utility equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Steam boilers
    • Wastewater treatment systems
    • Water softeners
    • Compressed air systems
    • Cooling towers
    • High-pressure water systems
    • Chemical treatment systems
  • Monitor boiler makeup water, steam production, condensate return systems, gas pressure, air pressure, water chemistry, and all associated instrumentation and controls.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose utility system malfunctions and equipment failures.
  • Perform startup, shutdown, and operational checks of utility systems and related support equipment.
  • Maintain daily operating logs, performance records, regulatory documentation, and equipment readings.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental, safety, and operating regulations.
Facility Maintenance
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, adjustments, lubrication, and inspections of facility and building systems.
  • Maintain and repair HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, lighting systems, pumps, motors, piping, valves, and related infrastructure.
  • Perform basic electrical, mechanical, and building maintenance as qualified.
  • Troubleshoot facility-related equipment issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Support facility improvement projects and equipment installations.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors performing maintenance and repair work.
  • Maintain facility equipment in compliance with company safety standards and applicable codes.
Preventive Maintenance
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance activities through the CMMS/maintenance scheduling system.
  • Inspect equipment and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory of lubricants, chemicals, replacement parts, and maintenance supplies.
  • Report shortages and assist with procurement efforts to ensure equipment uptime.
General Duties
  • Support full facility startups and shutdowns, including utility systems and facility infrastructure.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Participate in safety programs, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work any assigned shift and overtime as required.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment systems and environmental compliance requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to work on ladders, platforms, scaffolds, rooftops, and in confined spaces as required.
  • Ability to work around moving mechanical equipment and utility systems.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing and process production environment.
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, steam systems, heat, noise, chemicals, and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Frequent interaction with forklifts, contractors, maintenance personnel, and production employees.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins.
