  • Ensure all work complies with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, OSHA standards, local jurisdictional requirements, and applicable Veterans Health Administration (VHA) directives.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, parts usage, and labor hours.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other trades to support project schedules and minimize system downtime.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members and facility stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
  • Participate in safety meetings and strictly follow all site-specific safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Strong technical knowledge of high- and low-pressure boiler systems, combustion controls, and associated mechanical/electrical components.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment used in boiler installation and repair.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and code compliance.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of VHA directives related to boiler plant operations and the VHA Boiler Plant Safety Device Testing Manual (8th Edition) is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical training, apprenticeship, or formal education in boiler mechanics, HVAC, or a related mechanical trade.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience as a Boiler Mechanic or in a closely related role.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ASME, National Board, or state boiler operator/mechanic licenses) preferred.
  • Familiarity with VHA boiler safety standards and the 8th Edition Boiler Manual is highly desirable.
