The Body Technician is a skilled craftsman responsible for restoring automobiles with light to heavy collision damage. Key duties include assessing exterior damage, repairing according to manufacturer guidelines, ensuring the availability of necessary parts, reshaping panels with minor damage, and utilizing welding and refinishing techniques as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure repairs meet OE standards, DRP part choices, and ADAS calibration and scanning requirements, ensuring quality and safety.
- Disassemble vehicles as needed.
- Refit new parts such as bumpers, fenders, grills, moldings, and other bolt-on and welded components.
- Restore all repaired areas to the original manufacturer’s specifications, including door, hood, deck alignments, chassis, and frame measurements, and welded unibody parts.
- Verify the accuracy of all parts before starting repairs and report discrepancies to the Estimator.
- Work efficiently to meet target delivery dates.
- Take responsibility for all parts assigned to your jobs.
- Protect vehicle interiors and exteriors from additional damage during repairs.
- Read and understand each vehicle’s Repair Order (RO) and visually inspect to ensure all repairs are complete.
- Provide guidance and training to apprentices to foster their development.
Key Performance Metrics
- Customer Service Index Score of 95+ for Quality, Timeliness, and NPS.
- Cycle Time Efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications
- I-CAR Gold Class and ASE certifications are a plus.
- Comprehensive understanding of light to heavy collision repair.
- Knowledge of safety guidelines.
- Skilled in welding and panel removal/refitting.
- Ability to follow written instructions accurately and work independently or as part of a team.
