Overview
At North American Truck & Trailer, we pride ourselves on our energetic atmosphere. Sioux Falls Truck & Trailer is looking to fill a Body Shop Tech position. We are always looking for great candidates to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Damage Assessment: Body shop technicians assess the extent of damage to a vehicle by visually inspecting it and sometimes using diagnostic tools. They identify structural damage, dents, scratches, and other issues.
- Repair Planning: Based on the assessment, they create a repair plan that outlines the steps and materials needed to restore the vehicle to its pre-damaged condition. This may involve removing damaged parts, straightening frames, and replacing components.
- Body Repair: Body shop techs perform tasks such as removing dents, filling in scratches and dings, and replacing damaged panels. They might use tools like welding equipment, body filler, and specialized hand tools.
- Painting and Refinishing: After repairing the body, technicians often need to paint and refinish the vehicle to match its original color and texture. This involves sanding, priming, painting, and clear-coating the repaired areas.
- Frame Straightening: If the vehicle's frame is damaged, body shop techs use specialized equipment to carefully straighten and align the frame, ensuring the structural integrity of the vehicle.
- Welding and Fabrication: Some repairs might involve welding new parts or patches onto the vehicle. Skilled body shop techs are proficient in various welding techniques and can fabricate custom parts if necessary.
- Detailing and Final Touches: After the repairs are complete, body shop techs clean and detail the vehicle to present it to the customer in the best possible condition. This includes cleaning the interior, washing the exterior, and ensuring all repairs are of high quality.
- Quality Control: Before releasing the vehicle to the customer, body shop techs perform thorough quality control checks to ensure that all repairs have been completed correctly and the vehicle meets safety and aesthetic standards.
- Customer Interaction: Depending on the shop's policies, body shop techs might also interact with customers, explaining the repairs performed and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Safety and Regulations: Body shop techs need to adhere to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards while performing repairs. This includes handling hazardous materials properly and maintaining a safe work environment.
