Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges, seeks an Area Supervisor (Highway Maintenance) I to lead maintenance crews for bridges, tunnels and related structures. Duties include supervising field crews, monitoring work quality, and preparing reports.

Shift work may include days, evenings, or nights, with the supervisor visiting each crew each shift. Location: 4200 Vernon Blvd, LIC, NY 11101.

Qualifications

• Four years of full-time satisfactory experience on roadway/bridge maintenance or repair, including debris removal, sweeping, and cleaning, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
• Possession of a Class B CDL with no restrictions on air brakes; must be valid in NY and maintained during employment.

Responsibilities

• Assign work locations and monitor progress/quality of crews.
• Compile reports for citywide maintenance activities (fence, debris, sweeping, drain cleaning, deck sealing).
• Respond to emergencies and oversee snow operations during anti-icing programs.
• Visit field crews at least once per shift and keep accurate records.
• Perform related duties as required.

Job Description

Civil Service Title- Area Supervisor (Highway Maintenance) I

In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title, or must have filed for the civil service exam # 7507, and provide proof.

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.

This is a supervisory position involved in the maintenance of bridges, tunnels, and related structures. The Area Supervisor Level I reports directly to the Area Supervisor Level 2. Duties may include assigning work locations; monitoring and ensuring work progress and quality; compiling reports for citywide fence, asphalt, debris, mechanical sweeping, drain cleaning, deck sealing and/or community service crews; responding to emergencies; overseeing snow operations on the East River bridges as part of the anti-icing program; keeping job and other records; performing related duties. Employees must work days, evening, or night shifts as required. Employees must visit each field crew at least once per shift.

Four years of full-time satisfactory experience as a working member of a roadway or bridge/tunnel maintenance and repair crew using asphalt and concrete mixes; and/or performing such tasks as debris/bulk removal; mechanical sweeping, drain/scupper cleaning on bridges/tunnels or related structures, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions on the use of air brakes. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Four years of full-time satisfactory experience as a working member of a roadway or bridge/tunnel maintenance and repair crew using asphalt and concrete mixes; and/or performing such tasks as debris/bulk removal; mechanical sweeping, drain/scupper cleaning on bridges/tunnels or related structures, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
