Civil Service Title: Administrative Construction Project Manager (NM)

This position involves a list call with a posting component.

Job Responsibilities

Serves as a Project Manager/Engineer-In-Charge in the Bureau of Capital Design and Construction. Will work in one of the following groups: East River Bridges, Movable Bridges, Roadway Bridges, Component Rehabilitation, or Specialty Engineering. Directs all functions related to the construction and rehabilitation of the City’s bridges and related structures. Oversees review of all contract documents, reports, and planning/scheduling of contract work. Prepares scopes and specifications for construction contracts. Acts as liaison to outside agencies including NYSDOT to ensure proper engineering coordination and review of joint projects. Advises the Director on developing goals, objectives, and evaluating contractor performance. Reviews and approves final cost estimates. Evaluates the work of consultants supervising construction projects. Supervises and guides subordinate staff. Plans, schedules, and coordinates activities to meet performance objectives related to bridge rehabilitation. Performs other related duties.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to supervise a staff of engineers in project planning, organizing, and coordination.
  • A valid New York State Professional license is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least six years of full-time experience in construction management on capital projects of at least $15,000 each, including 18 months in a managerial or consultative role.
  • Additional experience in construction inspection, skilled trades, or education in related fields can be credited to reach a total of ten years of education and experience.
License Requirements

Possession of a valid NY Motor Vehicle Driver License, maintained during employment.
