Job Responsibilities
  1. Serve as a Project Manager/Engineer-In-Charge in the Bureau of Capital Design and Construction, working in groups such as East River Bridges, Movable Bridges, Roadway Bridges, Component Rehabilitation, or Specialty Engineering.
  2. Oversee all functions related to the construction and rehabilitation of the City’s bridges and related structures.
  3. Review contract documents, reports, and plan scheduling of contract work.
  4. Prepare scopes and specifications for construction contracts.
  5. Coordinate with outside agencies and offices, including NYSDOT, for joint projects.
  6. Advise the Director on goals, objectives, and contractor performance evaluation.
  7. Review and approve final cost estimates for construction work.
  8. Evaluate the work of consultants supervising construction projects.
  9. Supervise and guide subordinate staff in technical and other matters.
  10. Plan, schedule, and coordinate activities to meet performance objectives related to bridge rehabilitation.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering design and construction practices.
  • Ability to supervise a staff of engineers in project planning, organizing, coordination, and control.
  • A valid New York State Professional license is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

At least six years of full-time experience in construction management on capital projects valued at a minimum of $15,000, including at least 18 months in a managerial or consultative capacity. Additional qualifications include experience in construction inspection, skilled building trades, or relevant education credits, with a valid license as a professional engineer or registered architect preferred. Candidates must have at least six years of construction management experience and possess a valid NYS Driver License.
