Job summary

Excel Boat Company in Union City, TN, is seeking skilled Boat Finish/Installation workers to assemble and install internal and external boat components. You will wire trolling motors, depth finders, batteries, and lighting, install decking, livewells, and plumbing, and ensure the craft meets safety and quality standards.

Ideal candidates have high school or GED, experience with plumbing/electrical work, and comfort using hand and power tools.

Qualifications

  • High school or GED equivalent graduate preferred.
  • Experience in plumbing and electrical is preferred.
  • Forklift/crane experience is preferred.
  • Read a tape measure and basic math.
  • Safe work habits and PPE compliance.
  • Able to stand all day in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install rub rail, doors, handles, decals, navigation lights, and cleats.
  • Wire and install trolling motor, depth finders, batteries and battery charger, underwater lights, LED lighting, transducers, and consoles.
  • Plumb and install livewells and livewell/aerator pumps with correct connections.
  • Rig and derig warranty boats and do all repairs.
  • Attend and be attentive to training and continuing education.
  • Review work orders and any other documentation to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Follow all lawful safety and health rules and regulations, and wear or use prescribed protective equipment while working.

Department Summary
  • The finish department works to give the boat its finished status by installing internal components, such as plumbing and wiring, and external components such as trolling motors, depth finders, and motors in a timely manner.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install rub rail, doors, handles, decals, navigation lights, and cleats.
  • Wire and install trolling motor, depth finders, batteries and battery charger, underwater lights, LED lighting, transducers, and consoles.
  • Plumb and install livewells and livewell/aerator pumps with correct connections.
  • Install jack plate, motor harness, gas tank with components, and water/oil separator.
  • Install marine decking, jump seats, drain covers, and cup holders.
  • Identify aluminum parts on a boat, know the difference between all boat models, and know the different motor harnesses, steering, and helms.
  • Build the entire front and back deck of the boat.
  • Acquire and pass DC electrical training and plumbing training.
  • Acquire certification for forklift, crane, and tractor operations as needed.
  • Rig and derig warranty boats and do all repairs.
  • Attend and be attentive to training and continuing education.
  • Review work orders and any other documentation to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Take time to do things correctly the first time and proactively identify potential issues before they become problems
  • Follow all lawful safety and health rules and regulations, and wear or use prescribed protective equipment while working. Report hazardous conditions and any job-related injury or illness immediately to management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills

  • Read a tape measure, understand fractions, simple math-addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.

  • Take ownership in work and be willing to ask questions if needed.
  • Keep tools and equipment clean and organized while maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  • High school or GED equivalent graduate preferred.
  • Experience in plumbing and electrical is preferred.
  • Forklift/crane experience is preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Capable of standing all day, no sitting down on job; repetitive use of hands and arms. Ability to walk, climb, balance, twist, turn, grasp, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or crawl. May need to work intermittently from a ladder.
  • Required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently. When bending hulls need to be able to lift/move upward of 75 pounds, or 250 lbs collectively. Capable of lifting 50-75 pounds over the shoulder and outward frequently.
  • Ability to work in an extremely cold and hot work environment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Great socialization and communication with management, other department leads, and coworkers.
