Reports to: Department Supervisor

Location: TACOMA

FSLA Status: Non-Exempt

Day Shift: 5:00AM to 3:30PM Mon- Thurs

Pay: $24.00 to $30.00 DOE

US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED

JOB SUMMARY:

The Welder/Fabricator 2 uses welding and other tools and equipment to join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal to build boats. Position is responsible for the daily coordination of assigned area. In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, ensuring standard work is being performed, and identifying and resolving quality issues. Will work under supervision but should be able to perform some basic tasks independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers & portable grinders.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas metal arc & plasma arc.
  • Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • May set up and/or verify settings on production machines and equipment
  • Operates a variety of handheld and power-assisted tools and production fixtures
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position
  • Effectively communicate to supervisor and manager
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of their work
  • Reports major issues to supervisor or to team lead

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to a minimum of two years of experience in area of expertise.
  • Aluminum experience required, GMAW (MIG)
  • Requires a intermediate understanding of the usage of production machinery, common hand tools, handheld power tools and fabricating equipment.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints and weld symbols
  • Must be able to pass a skill test relevant to the position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Use of manufacturing equipment. Work in areas at times that are not environmentally controlled. Able to move 50 lbs. Ability to get underway with high speed watercraft in variable weather conditions.
