Job summary

Kowalski Construction in Arizona is seeking a Hazardous Materials & Board-Up Technician to join our emergency response team in Phoenix. You secure damaged properties, install board-ups, and assist with hazardous materials response and environmental cleanup on a 24/7 schedule.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with clean record.
  • Able to pass background check and drug screening.
  • Willing to work in outdoor, physically demanding conditions.
  • On-call rotation and flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Secure properties by installing board-ups and temporary fencing.
  • Respond to hazardous material incidents and cleanup.
  • Identify and contain environmental hazards and decontaminate as required.
  • Maintain PPE and report incidents and documentation.
  • Work in an on-call rotation including nights and weekends.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for responding to emergency property damage by securing homes and businesses, installing temporary board-ups and fencing, and assisting with hazardous materials response and environmental cleanup.

Because we provide 24/7 emergency services, this position requires flexibility, including participation in an on-call rotation and the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours when emergency situations arise.

What You'll Do
  • Secure residential and commercial properties by installing board-ups on windows, doors, and other openings
  • Install temporary fencing and other protective barriers as needed
  • Respond to hazardous material incidents and emergency cleanup situations
  • Identify, contain, and assist with the remediation of hazardous substances and environmental hazards
  • Perform decontamination procedures while following all safety protocols
  • Properly collect, handle, transport, and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations
  • Inspect, use, and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Complete job documentation, incident reports, and compliance records
  • Communicate professionally with customers, team members, and emergency response partners
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and emergency response exercises
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in safe working condition
  • Support other restoration operations as needed
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening
  • Comfortable working in physically demanding environments and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Dependable, professional, and able to remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation for emergency response
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in restoration, construction, demolition, environmental services, emergency response, or general labor
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification
  • DOT Hazardous Materials Certification

Don't have HAZWOPER certification? That's okay. Relevant experience is a plus, but we're willing to train motivated individuals who are committed to safety and eager to learn.
