Overview

Barnes Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital's staff includes full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. Recognized for excellence in nursing care, Barnes Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is a leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education, and outreach. It holds the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute and membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, being the only cancer center in Missouri within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to do so. The parent institutions are also nationally recognized, with U.S. News & World Report ranking them among the nation's elite.

Division 3200 is a 25-bed unit providing care to oncology patients hospitalized for cancer treatment and symptom management, including support for chemotherapy, pain management, radiation, intervention of blood products, and more. The care provided is moderate to high acuity, involving high-complexity interventions. Care is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team including oncology nurses, advanced practice nurses, case managers, social workers, pharmacy, and psychosocial support.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose: Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of nursing standards.

Responsibilities:

  1. Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, post-treatment home care, and medication administration.
  2. Participates in activities promoting patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development.
  3. Develops, implements, and documents individual care plans with goals, collaborating with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver, and ensuring communication across the continuum of care.
  4. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Considers patient preferences, values, and barriers to involvement, including cultural and spiritual needs.

Note: BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is essential.
