The University of Kansas Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Hematology/Oncology team in an inpatient setting. The APP will manage BMT patients, develop treatment plans, and coordinate care with a collaborative physician.

Strong emphasis on documentation, education and adherence to standards. Qualified candidates hold a PA or APRN credential with a Master's or DNP, and possess BLS.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in PA or APRN; or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as PA or APRN in Kansas and/or Missouri.
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) – APRN may obtain within one year of hire.
  • Previous APRN/PA experience; Heme/Onc or BMT experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patients undergoing blood or marrow stem cell transplantation and other cell therapies.
  • Evaluate medical problems and consult with specialists when needed.
  • Educate patients and families about care plans, medications and preventive care.
  • Document evaluations, diagnoses, treatments and outcomes in accordance with regulatory standards.

Position Title BMT INPATIENT APP Days - Full Time Cambridge Tower A

Position Summary / Career Interest: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Hematology/Oncology specialty within the Internal Medicine Department manages health problems and coordinates health care, related to the BMT patient population in acute or specialty care settings. These APPs deliver patient care and medical services to individuals, families and groups by utilizing standards of care in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations to assess health status, diagnose medical conditions, develop medical plan of care, implement treatments and evaluate patient responses in collaboration with collaborative/sponsoring physician as described in a Collaborative Practice Agreement.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

Responsible for the management of patients undergoing blood or marrow stem cell transplantation and other cell therapies. Able to evaluate medical problems of clients in the BMT practice settings and appropriately requests consultation of other specialties when indicated. Provides education to patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications pertinent to the patient’s condition. Creates diagnostically appropriate treatment plans. Documents all medical evaluation, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals and consultations consistent with NCQA, The Joint Commission, state regulatory standards and evidenced-based standards of care. Maintains documentation compliance for appropriate coding and billing. Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers and quality standards according to protocols and receives and implements constructive directives. May refer complex and high priority cases to collaborating physician with regards to complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, complicated therapeutic problems and re-evaluation of chronic conditions. Provides medical and emergency interventions appropriate to the client’s needs; prescribes and monitors medications appropriate to the diagnosis; orders and monitors the appropriateness of emergency interventions. Maintains collegiality with all members of the inter-disciplinary team. Utilizes appropriate chain-of-command and communicates with specialty practice Program Director, APP Director and Medical Director of any clinical issue and contributes to quality improvement or process improvement as necessary Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Required Education and Experience

Master's Degree in Physician Assistant OR Master Degree Nursing from an accredited program in Advanced Practice Nursing for APRNs. OR Doctor of Nursing Practice from an accredited program in Advanced Practice Nursing for APRNs.

Preferred Education and Experience

Previous APRN or PA experience. Previous Heme/Onc or BMT experience.

Required Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) - State Board of Healing Arts copy of the current advanced practice license for the State of Kansas and/or Missouri (depending on practice locations).
  • OR Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) - State Board of Nursing copy of the current advanced practice license for the State of Kansas and/or Missouri (depending on practice locations).
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) – American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced practice certification required. APRNs may obtain within one year of date of hire; Specific certification may be required depending on specialty.
Contractual Information

Time Type: Full time

Employment with the health system is contingent upon, among other things, agreeing to the health-system-dispute-resolution-program.pdf and signing the agreement to the DRP.
