Responsibilities

  • Schedules appointments and maintains calendar for assigned manager, director or executive.
  • Schedules all procedures performed in the outpatient rehab office.
  • Makes contact with insurance providers to obtain authorization for patient therapy.
  • Ensures patient registration, billing and other applications are coordinated according to procedure.
  • Obtains and scans patient’s insurance/medical cards and driver’s license into the registration system.
  • Coordinates and assists in the completion of all activities relating to the patient’s finances.
  • Facilitates the collection and distribution of information and to expedite a smooth and timely billing and collection process.
  • Verifies insurance. Validates pre-cert/pre-auth information after completion of insurance verification and record results in the system.
  • Understands and uses applicable CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Acts as department resource by being of assistance to patients and families.
  • Documents and reports malfunctioning equipment immediately to appropriate management staff.
  • Answers telephone, receives and delivers messages via electronic e-mail, fax, phone or fax.
  • Completes supply ordering accurately and in a timely manner, following up on backorders as needed.
  • Assists therapists as needed during patient sessions.
  • Ensures the front office is manned effectively at all times.
  • Completes Medicare Secondary Payer forms, medical necessity screening and verifies applicable payer and service.
  • Follows up on accounts as directed.
  • Follows established computer downtime procedures
  • Performs quality and compliance audits as directed.
  • Reviews monthly denial report and resolves any insurance discrepancies in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited university in accounting or business-related field
  • Medical coding certification
Experience
  • Three (3) years of recent experience in a physician/medical office-scheduling, registration, business office functions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must meet Department of Labor’s LIGHT duty standard (LIGHT WORK - involves lifting/exerting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds).
  • Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-10 hour shift.
  • Able to wear latex or vinyl gloves, with frequent changes and hand washing.
  • Able to tolerate working with and around noxious odors.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • May be scheduled to work various shifts based on departmental and patient needs.
  • May be required to travel between facilities/buildings.
  • May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.
  • May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries and death.
  • This position may require unsupervised access to restricted areas that may contain medications, supplies and patient confidential information.
Skills And Abilities
  • Use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse.
  • Answer telephones and transcribe messages.
  • Communicate verbally, written and electronically with healthcare personnel, families and patients.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Additional Job Description

This role is in our Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation facility at the Dorothy McCormack Center on BMC's campus. Some insurance verification and authorization responsibility is included in this role, but we will provide training.
