Job summary

The University of Florida's Blueberry Breeding and Genomics Lab is seeking motivated student assistants to support the blueberry breeding program with basic molecular work and field activities at our Gainesville campus. The position runs now through May 2027, with potential extension based on performance.

Work includes DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and field sample collection, in lab and field locations.

Qualifications

• Ability to work 8-hour shifts
• Commitment through the blueberry season
• No bee or bug allergies
• Experience in molecular lab and field work preferred

Responsibilities

• Be available to work in 8-hour shifts
• Weekdays 8:00AM – 5:00PM
• Conduct basic molecular work, such as DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, gene cloning and transformation
• Work outdoors or greenhouse in various weather conditions
• Assist with the collection of field samples and breeding seasonal work
• Load and unload field sample equipment and coolers from the truck bed
• Collect and document data accurately
• Be flexible with sudden changes to the schedule
