Position & Client Overview:

A renowned and small Immunohematology Reference Laboratory servicing many communities in central Pennsylvania, north of Philadelphia, is currently seeking two Blood Bank Technologists with experience in advanced immunohematology testing for a day shift at their esteemed blood center.

Central Pennsylvania offers a unique blend of historic and modern attractions, from trendy restaurants to a 275-year-old bookstore, a glittering casino, and the first college in America to educate women, providing a rich experience for residents and visitors alike.

Job Summary:

Blood bank technologists perform routine and specialized tests in blood banks, blood donor centers, transfusion services, reference laboratories, and research facilities.

Skill Requirements:

  • Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Require dexterity and good hand-eye coordination for specimen collection and preparation.
  • Follow instructions and procedures meticulously.
  • Apply critical thinking to recognize problems and develop solutions or alternative approaches.
  • Prioritize lab safety and infection prevention.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Testing for blood group antigens, compatibility, and antibody identification.
  • Investigating abnormalities and adverse transfusion reactions.
  • Supporting physicians in transfusion therapy.
  • Performing viral marker testing to ensure patient safety.
  • Managing patient blood products.

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in science.
  • MT/MLT/MLS(ASCP) certification or equivalent.
  • SBB(ASCP) certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
