Job description

Allium makes blockchain data accurate, simple, and fast

Blockchain data is hard, messy, and chaotic.

When we started out in late 2021, our thesis was simple: blockchain data, despite being public and free, is difficult to understand, clunky to access, and troublesome to maintain. Answering questions like “Who are the biggest Ethereum token holders over time?” requires engineering effort to run RPC nodes, ingest full blockchain history, clean and transform data, and craft complex SQL queries.

Accessing data is hard because blockchains are optimized for Writes, not Reads

Blockchains are designed for high transaction throughput (writes), but less optimized for data retrieval (reads). This is due to focus on scalability and fault tolerance, which makes data extraction at scale difficult.

Parsing and interpreting blockchain data requires deep expertise

Blockchains support general computation, leading to diverse schemas for tokens, NFTs, DEXs, etc. Standardizing this data requires deep domain knowledge to convert technical outputs into understandable information.

Allium simplifies blockchain data access

We ingest, sanitize, and standardize data across 100+ blockchains, which now totals petabytes and is growing rapidly.

Our mission

Similar to Bloomberg for financial data or Google for web data, Allium indexes and organizes blockchain data to support industry innovators and trends.

Our customers

We serve analysts (BI tools) and engineers (realtime data queries) with clients including Visa, Stripe, Grayscale, Phantom, Uniswap, and others. We bridge blockchain and traditional data worlds.

About the role

We seek engineers and problem-solvers to tackle new challenges daily. Our product team provides guidance, enabling engineers to build impactful solutions.

  • Data Egress - Efficiently transport hundreds of TBs globally (see Databricks Delta Sharing, Cloudflare R2).

  • Handle high traffic - Support 100,000 QPS without downtime (see Phantom Airdrop).

  • Botnets - Detect behavioral patterns indicative of botnets.

  • Fraud detection - Apply heuristics to blockchain fraud.

  • Identify real transactions - Distinguish meaningful activity.

  • Bring Your Own Transformation - Enable customers to design APIs and transform data streams.

  • Data Governance - Maintain data consistency across regions 24/7.

  • AI and LLMs - Develop AI experiences on top of blockchain data.

  • Data transformation unification - Combine streaming and batch logic into a single codebase.

Past work includes deep dives into Ordinals data, sybil detection, wallet analytics, wash trading filters, industry reports, DeFi schema design, and more.

Qualities we value

  • Curiosity akin to Sherlock Holmes
  • Fast understanding of new blockchain schemas
  • Proficiency in NFTs, DEXs, logs, and smart contracts

Our infrastructure

We have a large budget for infrastructure, leveraging tools like Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Kafka, AWS, GCP, Azure, and more, with data replicated globally.

Customer feedback and industry recognition

See testimonials and awards on our blog and external articles.

Our values

  • Pro athlete mindset: consistency and excellence
  • Figure it out & extreme ownership
  • High agency & responsiveness
  • Lead by example
  • Strong opinions, loosely held
  • Business acumen & curiosity

About our team

We welcome diverse backgrounds, including self-taught coders, students, and top university graduates, united by curiosity and work ethic.

Benefits

Medical, dental, vision, life insurance. US-based employees need to overlap 2 hours with NYC mornings (10am-12pm ET). Remote worldwide, with a fun quiz about Allium.
