Job summary

H&R Block is seeking a year-round Block Advisor to prepare complete tax returns for individuals and businesses, conducting client interviews to understand life changes and tax implications. You will deliver personalized recommendations and identify tax savings opportunities, supported by training and technology that enhances client service.

Qualifications

Successful completion of the HR Block Tax Knowledge Assessment
5+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping
Experience preparing complex individual and business returns, including planning and audit support
Experience in a client-facing, consultative, or advisory role
Strong verbal and written communication and ability to explain tax concepts clearly
Must complete continuing education and maintain IRS/state requirements
High school diploma / GED or equivalent

About The Role

As a year-round Block Advisor

Build trusted, year-round client relationships by delivering empathetic, consultative service and identifying tax savings opportunities and relevant Block Advisors products and services
Provide IRS support, tax notice assistance, and audit guidance to clients as needed
Collaborate with team members, share knowledge, and contribute to a positive, client-focused office environment

About The Role

As a year-round Block Advisor Tax Advisor, you are a trusted advisor who helps clients navigate complex tax and business services situations with confidence. You'll use your expertise to prepare accurate returns, uncover savings opportunities, and build lasting client relationships — backed by industry-leading training and technology, a competitive hourly rate, and an incentive plan that rewards your impact as you build your tax expertise and serve clients.

This role is in-person at a local Block Advisors office.

Required Qualifications

Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment¹
5+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping
Experience preparing complex individual returns and business returns, including tax planning, audit support, and tax notice resolution
Experience working in a client-facing, consultative, or advisory role
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain tax concepts in client-friendly language
Must complete continuing education and meet all other IRS and applicable state requirements
High school diploma / GED / equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA), or other IRS Circular 230 credentials
Familiarity with GoSystem or Ultratax software
Familiarity with AI-powered tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT)
Experience in a consultative or advisory client relationship role (financial advising, insurance, or professional services)
