Job summary

Kiewit is seeking an experienced Blasting Laborer Journeyman to support road construction, grading and earthmoving operations near Study Butte, Texas. The role offers a pay rate up to $26/hr with a 10 days on / 4 days off schedule.

Housing accommodations are available, and travel per diem/travel allowance are provided for qualifying distances. Drug and alcohol testing is required prior to employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required, with prior field experience preferred.
• Strong working knowledge and abilities for the position.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
• Proficient in safe and efficient use of electrical, hand, power, layout and measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist craftsmen in setting up work as required.
• Follow instructions from superintendents, foreman and crew.
• Prioritize safety in all tasks.
• Assist with hole layout, drilling angles, material placement, and spotter support for equipment operations.
• Read and understand warning signs, operating instructions, and jobsite safety rules.
• Observe functioning of equipment to determine hazards.
• Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities and plan time, costs, and material needs.
• Inspect subordinates' work for compliance and deficiencies.

Kiewit is seeking experienced Blasting Laborer Journeyman to support road construction, grading and earthmoving operations near Study Butte, Texas.

Shift Information

• Pay rate up to $26/hr depending on experience.
• Shift schedule: 10 days on 4 days off
• Must be available to workday and night shift
• Additional overtime and weekends may be required.

Additional Details

• $70/day worked per diem is provided for travel exceeding 50 miles from the project site
• $75/day will be provided for travel allowance

• All offers are contingent on your ability to pass a Drug and Alcohol test.

Primary Responsibilities And Duties

• Assist craftsman in setting up work as required.
• Follow instructions given by superintendents, foreman and other experienced crew.
• Perform all required duties with the first focus on safety.
• Assist with hole layout, ensuring correct drilling angles and material placement, provides spotter support for equipment operations, operates skid steers and other equipment, load blast holes in accordance with project plans and safety requirements.
• Read and understand warning signs, operating instructions for equipment, jobsite safety rules and jobsite policies.
• Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards.
• Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
• Inspect subordinate's work for compliance and/or deficiencies

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effective with management/supervision.
• Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools

Requirements

• The person in this position needs to constantly move about a construction/industrial site, so should be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
• Constantly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions
• Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
• May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet), so must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
• Move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
• May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction/industrial site
• Must have required tools
• May require DL
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, perform other duties as required
• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing
