Responsibilities

  • Maintains blasting, taping and coating machinery by performing preventive maintenance and reports needs to Team Leader.
  • Breakdown, fix and reassemble ID blaster.
  • Change out nozzles and gaskets on hoses and pots.
  • Check levels on silos for media; fill the pots.
  • Set up bunks for different pipes and ID blaster; clean ID blaster.
  • Maintain protective hood with respirator.
  • Confer with supervisor on progress and changes in processing methods.
  • Position pipe for blasting; operate blasting control per drawings and specs.
  • Apply primer, coating, or tape per customer specs; monitor application.
  • Read customer specs/drawings to determine coating type and setup.
  • Read psychrometric specs for dew point/humidity before blasting.
  • Place end caps on pipe; remove and stage for yard/shipping/fab area.
  • Perform other tasks as instructed by supervision.

Education

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Blasts pipe to remove rust, contamination, and poly coating to prepare pipes for coating. Performs taping & coating procedures and prepares pipe for shipment.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of one to two years of related experience to include tape and coating, preferred.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with Team Leader and other employees.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledgeable of Microsoft Programs
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: In House Forklift Certification
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

include the Manual Lining & Coating Operator station duties described below. Other duties may be assigned, including but not limited to cross training and housekeeping. Responsibilities also include attention to safety according to all safety rules.

  1. Maintains blasting, taping and coating machinery by performing preventive maintenance, and reports repair or extensive maintenance requirements to Team Leader.
  2. Breakdown, fix and reassemble ID blaster
  3. Change out nozzles on blasting holes, gaskets on hoses pipes, ID hose to OD hose on the pots
  4. Check levels on the silos for the shots/black beauty (media).
  5. Fill the pots.
  6. Set up bunks for different pipes.
  7. Set up ID blaster.
  8. Clean ID blaster.
  9. Maintains protective abrasive hood with respirator.
  10. Confers with department Supervisor to determine progress of work and to provide information on changes in processing methods received from production control or engineering departments.
  11. Positions pipe for blasting, positions shrouds for protection, operates blasting control console to perform blasting operations per drawings and specifications.
  12. Applies primer, coating, or tape per customer specifications by operating machinery and monitoring application of tape or coating.
  13. Reads customer specification and drawings to determine type of coating, position of holdbacks and other specifications for setting up pipe for taping and/or coating operations.
  14. Reads, understands and interprets specifications from psychrometer to determine the dew point and humidity before blasting
  15. Places end caps on pipe.
  16. Removes pipe from work area and stages it for removal to yard, shipping area, or fab finishing area.
  17. Performs other tasks as instructed by supervision.
