Job summary

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Abrasive Blasters for work at Newport News Shipbuilding. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience using high-pressure blast equipment and be capable of working safely in physically demanding shipyard environments.

This position is for Abrasive Blasters and is not a BMEO or Ultra-High Pressure Water Blaster role. Daily respirator use may be required, and the rate of pay is $27.31 per hour plus a $120 per diem for those who qualify.

Shift: All Shifts
Rate of Pay: $27.31 per hour + 120.00 Pier diem for those who qualify

Pay is based on experience and qualifications.

DESCRIPTION

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Abrasive Blasters for work at Newport News Shipbuilding. Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience using high-pressure blast equipment and be capable of working safely in physically demanding shipyard environments.

This position is for Abrasive Blasters and is not a Blast Machine Equipment Operator (BMEO) or Ultra-High Pressure Water Blaster position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 3 years of experience using high-pressure blast equipment
• Experience working in a physically demanding environment
• Experience working in confined spaces
• Experience working at heights
• Experience using a blaster air-fed helmet and/or soft-hood air-fed respirator
• Experience using a negative-pressure half-face respirator
• Must be physically capable of entering and moving through manways and tank openings
• Must be a United States Citizen
• No professional certification is required for the position

REQUIRED SAFETY TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet applicable Newport News safety and medical-clearance requirements, including:

• Confined Space Entry training
• Hazard Communication training
• Inorganic Arsenic training and medical qualification
• Crystalline Silica training and medical qualification
• Respirator medical clearance, training, qualification, and applicable fit testing
• Training and qualification for applicable air‑fed blasting helmets/respirators and negative‑pressure respirators
• Fall Protection / Full Body Harness training and qualification
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training
• Hearing protection training
• Audiometric testing
• Ability to use required eye, head, hearing, hand, knee, respiratory, and fall-protection equipment

Daily respirator use may be required.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

This position requires physically demanding work in an industrial shipyard environment. Candidates must be able to:

• Work in confined spaces and tanks
• Work at heights
• Enter and move through restricted manway and tank openings
• Wear required respiratory and protective equipment for extended periods
• Work in varying temperature and humidity conditions
• Safely perform abrasive blasting operations while wearing all required PPE
