Position Summary

The Blanchard Grinder Operator will operate 48” to 100” Blanchard Grinder. This position will be responsible for setup and operation to grind flat surfaces to bring into set tolerances using calipers and micrometers. The ideal candidate must be able to identify and prepare materials per customer’s specifications by reading prints to verify dimensions of metal parts in order to accomplish certain tolerances. This is a full-time position. Work Shift is Wednesday (6 hours) and Thursday through Saturday 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Operate overhead and/or jib crane
• Setup, adjust and operate a rotary wheel Blanchard grinder
• Plan operating procedures on rotary wheel machine for flat grinding
• Make operating adjustments to calibrate machine adjusting devices to obtain tolerances and finish requirements
• Use scale, micrometers and indicators to make setups, adjustments, and to check work
• Work from part drawings, specifications and grinding instructions
• Use magnetic table and chucks or clamps to position and secure workpiece on table of machine using care to support irregular work properly to avoid distortion; or arrange and properly secure multiple-piece setups
• Select proper statistical tools to maintain process control and quality reliability
• Inspect and maintain work area and machine fluid levels daily
• Other duties as assigned

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position operates in a manufacturing shop environment. Exposure to noise, chemicals, and materials consistent with a manufacturing environment is constant. This is a physically demanding position; maintaining the physical strength to lift materials up to 50 lbs and endure prolonged standing is required.
