BIW & Mixed Materials Manager
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a Manager for the BIW (Body-In-White) & Mixed Materials Team of the Closures Engineering Design Department. The ideal candidate will possess extensive automotive experience and be capable of leading the design and development of multiple vehicles that meet or exceed customer requirements from concept through lifecycle production, while also developing new technologies and maintaining high safety standards.
The BIW & Mixed Materials Manager will support and execute a strategic vision, lead a team of seven direct reports, and develop an expansion plan by the end of 2025.
Core Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the department’s plan aligned with the goals of HATCI, Hyundai Motor Group, and the VE Division.
- Business Management: Meet KPIs related to program timing, cost, quality, IP, budget, and personnel development. Manage tasks and projects to support the team’s work plan and budget.
- Team Management: Set goals for direct reports, manage daily activities, and ensure alignment with the VE Division’s vision. Oversee administrative functions.
- Vehicle Development: Serve as a subject matter expert in automotive closure BIW design, manufacturing, testing, especially for EVs and light-duty trucks. Ensure processes are followed from concept to post-production, including benchmarking and cost/weight analysis.
- Life Cycle Support: Support manufacturing and production activities across Hyundai’s plants in the Americas, focusing on vehicle improvements and cost reductions.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regional affiliates and Korean counterparts, to support vehicle testing and development.
- Technology Assessment and Development: Contribute to technology roadmaps, liaise with testing labs, and support new technology research and adoption.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
What You Will Bring to the Role:
- Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- 12-15 years in automotive vehicle design and development with management experience.
- Knowledge of vehicle design, quality issues, and development processes.
- Experience with closures, CAE, testing, and production launch.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with CATIA, ENOVIA V6, 3D Experience, CAE, or similar systems.
- Strong project management skills.
- Flexibility in program and process changes.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Self-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
- Willingness to learn new processes.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory record.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in engineering.
- Over 3 years managing an engineering department or section.
