Job summary

The American Flood Coalition (AFC) seeks a Government Relations Director or Associate Director to join our 9-member Federal Policy & Government Relations team in Washington, DC. The role leads bipartisan flood policy on Capitol Hill, supports implementation at federal agencies, and strengthens AFC’s federal relationships.

The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of the federal legislative process, robust relationships within Congress and/or the Administration, and the ability to deliver complex

Qualifications

• 5+ years of blended experience in the House or Senate or relevant federal role (agency, nonprofit, or corporation).
• Strong networks across Congress and/or the Executive Branch with proven bipartisan engagement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication tailored to audiences and staff.

Responsibilities

• Represent AFC on Capitol Hill by outreach to 50+ Federal Champions and other key committees and staff.
• Expand AFC engagement with federal agencies on disaster, infrastructure, and flood resilience implementation.
• Forge relationships across government, to broaden AFC’s reach and impact.
• Track Congressional and agency developments to identify opportunities for AFC priorities.
• Create policy framing materials (fact sheets, talking points, letters, testimony, social media) to persuade diverse audiences.
• Collaborate across teams to embed Federal goals into cross-organizational projects.
