Job summary

The American Flood Coalition is seeking a Regional Strategy Director to lead a growing team of state government relations directors. This senior role centers on building scalable policy collaboration across states, with close alignment to the DC headquarters and key policy teams in Washington, DC.

Reporting to the State Government Relations Director, this full-time position emphasizes internal systems, coaching, and performance management to drive flood adaptation policies nationwide.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in strategy-focused roles, with at least 5 years in formal people management
• 3+ years in state government relations, association management, lobbying, or senior legislative staffing
• Strong project management across multi-workstream programs and distributed teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to synthesize complex information
• Bachelor’s Degree required

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of approximately four regional government relations directors.
• Contribute to team planning, strategy setting, and onboarding.
• Build and oversee internal project management systems and reporting.
• Bridge regional directors with DC‑based headquarters, translating field insights into guidance.
• Support regional directors’ advocacy work and resource access.
