Job summary

Lonza in Portsmouth, NH, is seeking a Biotechnologist I to join a fully site-based manufacturing team. You will set up and operate production equipment, monitor processes, and ensure compliance with GMP and GDP documentation standards.

The role includes CIP/SIP tasks, equipment maintenance, and active participation in training plans and quality systems. The position emphasizes hands-on manufacturing, data recording, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality medicines.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement is a High School Diploma or equivalent experience; AS/BS preferred.
• Preferred field of study: Science-related.
• Working experience in manufacturing; cGMP setting preferred, and/or some experience as an Associate Level I in the bio-pharma industry.
• Proven logic and decision-making abilities, with strong critical-thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, reflecting a proven ability to collaborate and contribute effectively.
• Open to feedback and able to translate feedback into action and adapt to changing business priorities.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate equipment, and monitor production processes in a GMP/GDP environment.
• Perform CIP/SIP operations and document production activity.
• Maintain records and training plans; ensure proper qualification of tasks.
• Conduct basic lab tasks such as monitoring pH, conductivity, and product samples.
• Move materials and materials handling across production areas; support 6S and cleanliness programs.
• Attend shift exchanges, meetings, and project-related communications.

The actual location of this job is in Portsmouth, NH, US. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families, if needed.

This is a fully site‑based role. Working together in person supports close, real‑time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

Schedule:

• Shift: Rotational Day Shift (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Pattern: 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off (repeating cycle)
• Weekend shifts include additional pay.

What you will do:

• Set up, operate equipment, and monitor production processes, including
• clean-in-place (CIP) and steam-in-place (SIP) operations and report production
• in written and electronic documents in accordance with good manufacturing
• practice (GMPs) and good documentation procedures (GDPs), review
• documentation as appropriate.
• Attain qualification for all assigned tasks and maintain individual training plan.
• Perform basic laboratory tasks, such as monitor pH, conductivity, test product
• samples, etc.
• Perform material movements, transfer raw materials, chemicals into, out of,
• across the production areas.
• Maintain facility and equipment through routine cleaning and sanitization,
• support 6S programs.
• Administrative tasks – attending shift exchange, meetings, sending/receiving
• emails, participating in projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
