Job summary

Beck's Superior Hybrids in Atlanta, IN is seeking a part-time intern to join the biotech marker lab and assist with corn and soybean research projects. The paid internship runs May through August 2027 and includes housing furnished or a housing stipend.

Interns will gain hands-on experience in seed preparation, breeding, molecular markers, and product development while traveling as needed. Ideal candidates are enrolled college students with a drive to learn in a fast-paced agricultural research

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a college student.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
• This is a safety-sensitive position.
• Overtime and overnight travel are required.
• Experience in agriculture is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Seed Preparation: Travel and work at Beck's location, assist with seed prep (housing provided).
• Plot Planting: Travel with Beck's staff to outlying locations to aid with test plots.
• Data Collection: Collect early and mid-season agronomic notes.
• Breeding Nursery: Assist with pollinating Beck's corn breeding nursery (housing may be provided).
• Laboratory: Assist in molecular marker and/or transformation labs.
• Other duties as required by supervisor.

This internship will be primarily focused on research in the biotech marker lab at Beck's in Atlanta. Duration: Paid Internship from May - August 2027.

Purpose and Scope

Interns will be responsible for learning about and assisting with Beck's Research Department. Interns will have the opportunity to take part in several facets of corn and soybean research including performance testing, corn breeding, molecular markers, transformation, and product development.

Responsibilities

• Seed Preparation
  • Travel and work at Beck's location for an extended period of time (housing provided) and assist with preparing seed for the upcoming planting season.
• Plot Planting
  • Travel with Beck's staff to outlying locations to assist with planting test plots.

Job Requirements

Education and training:

• Currently enrolled as a college student
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record as determined by Beck's automobile insurance policy.
• This is a safety-sensitive position.

Technical knowledge:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Possess positive attitude
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, work as a team member and proceed with objectives without supervision

Experience:

• Agriculture experience preferred
