The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) STPI is seeking a Research Analyst in the Washington, DC region. The role requires a PhD with 5+ years or a terminal master's with 8+ years of research or policy experience, and a degree in engineering, CS, or life sciences.

The analyst will lead independent research on biosafety and biosecurity policy, while guiding multi-disciplinary teams and communicating findings to sponsors.

Qualifications

• PhD with 5+ years or terminal master's with 8+ years of research or policy experience.
• Degree in engineering, computer science, or life sciences.
• Ability to guide project teams and deliver high-quality analytical products on time and within budget.
• Proven ability to conduct independent research and develop rigorous analytical approaches.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent research and analysis of complex issues related to biological systems, technologies, programs, and policy.
• Identify trends and opportunities affecting national biotechnology and policy landscape.
• Develop qualitative and quantitative analytical methods for sponsor questions.
• Prepare reports, briefing materials, white papers, and deliverables for government sponsors and senior decision-makers.
• Present research briefings to sponsors and interagency groups.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams on S&T policy projects.
