Job summary

Jefferies is seeking an equity research associate to support a biotech-focused senior analyst covering mid- and small-cap biotech companies in the United States. The role involves proprietary research, conference analysis, and preparing initiations of coverage with robust financial models.

The candidate should have 1–2+ years in healthcare investment research, a strong science background (MD/PhD preferred), and excellent written/verbal communication.

Qualifications

• 1-2+ years of experience in healthcare investment research required.
• MD or PhD preferred.
• Must be fully licensed.
• Strong written/verbal communication.
• High speed typing (>120 words per minute).
• Experience writing sell-side reports and creating detailed financial models (e.g. three-statement models, DCFs).
• Experience building financial models using Excel is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support a rising senior biotechnology analyst covering mid- and small-cap biotech firms.
• Conduct proprietary research and evaluate drug pipelines from literature, conferences, and experts.
• Write research reports for initiations of coverage and data analyses.
• Investigate intellectual property and patent litigation in pharma.
• Build and maintain financial models and PowerPoint decks.
• Develop differentiated project ideas and interact with management, sales/trading staff, and institutional investors.
