Laboratory Technician for Biotech Summer Research Experience
Position Overview: FCC is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to assist instructors in a four-week biotechnology summer research program for high school students. This hands-on program aims to provide students with practical laboratory skills, foster teamwork, and enhance problem-solving abilities through real lab experiments and research projects. The Laboratory Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the lab, supporting students and instructors, and maintaining a safe and productive learning environment.
Lab Preparation and Maintenance:

  1. Set up and organize laboratory equipment and materials for daily experiments.
  2. Ensure all lab instruments are calibrated and functioning properly.
  3. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the lab space
Support for Instructors and Students:
  1. Assist instructors in demonstrating laboratory techniques such as micro pipetting, gel electrophoresis, PCR, and cell culture.
  2. Provide guidance and support to students during lab activities, ensuring they understand and follow protocols.
  3. Monitor student progress and offer troubleshooting assistance as needed.
Safety and Compliance:
  1. Enforce safety protocols and ensure students adhere to lab safety guidelines.
  2. Conduct regular safety checks and report any hazards or incidents to instructors.
  3. Manage the disposal of hazardous materials according to regulatory standards.
Inventory Management:
  1. Track and manage inventory of lab supplies and reagents.
  2. Order and restock materials as needed to ensure uninterrupted lab activities.
  3. Maintain accurate records of inventory usage and expenditures.
Documentation and Reporting:
  1. Assist in the documentation of experimental procedures and results.
  2. Compile and organize data for instructor review and student presentations.
  3. Prepare reports on lab activities and student progress.
Team Collaboration:
  1. Work collaboratively with instructors and other staff to plan and execute lab activities.
  2. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student engagement and collaboration.
