School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, Clinical Trials Program - Statistical Data Analysis Center.
The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics (BMI) is a highly collaborative basic science department in the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). UW News and World Report recently ranked BMI as the 11th best program in the country, tied with the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. BMI serves as the SMPH home for data science, including research at the basic, translational, and clinical levels; graduate, professional, and health professions education; and service to the broader community with a goal of building foundational knowledge, and improving clinical care and human health.
Department faculty and research staff collaborate broadly, both in SMPH and across the UW-Madison campus. The research staff provide significant support to investigators in preparing proposals, designing statistical approaches and clinical trials, analyzing data, and helping investigators prepare and submit reports and manuscripts for publications. The department is home to two clinical trial programs, the Statistical Data Analysis Center (SDAC) and the Data Coordinating Center (DCC). SDAC conducts arms-length analysis of industry clinical trial data in support of Data Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs) and is considered the gold standard for such work.
