The University of Michigan's Motivation Lab and Michigan Roybal Center in the School of Kinesiology seek a Biostatistician to lead quantitative methods across behavioral and clinical intervention research. This 12‑month term‑limited role blends traditional biostatistics with modern data science, requiring autonomy to design analyses and implement models in R and Python.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in quantitative field; Bachelor's with experience acceptable.
• 3+ years post-degree health/behavioral/clinical research experience.
• Proficiency in R and Python for statistical computing.
• Experience with intensive longitudinal/EMA data and wearable data streams.
• Reproducible research workflows including Git/GitHub and dynamic reporting tools (Quarto, R Markdown, Jupyter).
• Publication-grade data visualizations (ggplot2, matplotlib/seaborn).
• Experience with REDCap database management and API-based data ingestion.
• Excellent written and oral communication; ability to translate statistics for non-specialists.
• Ability to mentor junior analysts and contribute to team culture.

Responsibilities

• Perform sample size and power calculations, including simulations in R.
• Design data management protocols and randomization strategies for trials and cohorts.
• Conduct advanced statistical analyses across cross-sectional, longitudinal, RCT, and ILD formats.
• Implement mixed-effects models in R and Bayesian approaches with Stan/brms/rstan.
• Model latent variables and growth curves in Mplus or R.
• Address missing data with methods like FIML and multiple imputation.
• Lead data governance, reproducible analytic pipelines, and open-science practices.
• Co-author manuscripts, grants, and conference presentations; contribute data visualizations.
• Review analytic code and mentor junior staff.
