Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Research Specialist to support its biorepository and translational research programs. You will manage biospecimen data, coordinate processing and storage, and ensure data integrity across LIMS and related databases to support high-quality research outcomes.

You will monitor freezers, assist with sample retrieval and distribution, and collaborate with investigators and staff to meet biosafety, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and two years of work experience in a clinical or research setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or related health science may substitute for some experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate biospecimen data management and tracking within LIMS and databases to ensure accurate linkage between records and storage locations.
  • Coordinate biospecimen processing workflows including aliquoting, labeling, dilution, and preparation for storage or distribution.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of metadata, labeling, and storage location records.
  • Support monitoring and maintenance of ultra-low temperature freezers, including alarm systems and temperature monitoring.
  • Collaborate with investigators and staff to integrate donor visit information from EMRs into research databases.
  • Contribute to after-hours/weekend coverage as needed to support biorepository operations and sample preparedness.
