Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking a Director of the Biorepository Core to provide strategic leadership for the SSLI biobanking and biospecimen processing enterprise in Richmond. The role oversees biospecimen acquisition, processing, storage, quality management, regulatory compliance, LIMS, and pre-analytical workflows, supporting internal and external research collaborations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related field preferred.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in biobanking, biorepository operations, or biological laboratory management.
• 5+ years of supervisory or personnel management experience.
• Experience leading complex laboratory operations and biospecimen lifecycle management.
• Experience preparing and managing IRB submissions, amendments, and continuing reviews.
• Experience with LIMS and SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Biorepository Core within SSLI.
• Oversee biospecimen collection, processing, storage, and chain‑of‑custody documentation.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with HIPAA, IATA, 21 CFR Part 11, GDPR/GINA when applicable.
• Develop workflows, SOPs, and quality management processes.
• Manage personnel and multiple research projects.
