Job summary

CAMRIS International, LLC seeks an Automation and Controls Engineer to support the Pilot Bioproduction Facility at WRAIR in Silver Spring, MD. You will maintain Allen‑Bradley PLC systems, develop ladder logic, and ensure compliance with GMP, FDA and EU requirements in a regulated biopharmaceutical setting.

You will configure and troubleshoot fieldbus networks, support SCADA/HMI for bioprocessing equipment, and execute IQ/OQ/PQ validation activities while coordinating with process engineers on

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in engineering, computer science, and/or biotechnology fields with a minimum of 6 years of GMP automation experience in a GMP-regulated facility.
• Understanding of GMP manufacturing practices and regulated computerized systems.
• Experience with GMP documentation practices, change control procedures, deviation management, and regulatory inspection support (FDA, DISA, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a collaborative environment.
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting automated manufacturing equipment and process control systems.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship and have lived in the United States for three of the past five years if a non-US citizen.
• A REAL ID or a U.S. passport is required to get on base at WRAIR.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Allen-Bradley PLC systems (ControlLogix, CompactLogix) and document ladder logic and structured text to meet bioprocessing control requirements.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain DeviceNet and other fieldbus networks across the facility; manage device profiles and topology documentation.
• Support SCADA and HMI development, deployment, and maintenance for bioprocessing equipment including bioreactors and chromatography systems.
• Execute CSV activities per 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11, including IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and change control management.
• Maintain plant OT network infrastructure and coordinate with IT/OT teams on cybersecurity and lifecycle management.
• Manage device configuration profiles and as-built drawings; maintain wiring diagrams and loop documentation.
• Partner with process engineers to automate unit operations and define automation scope for capital projects.
• Support regulatory inspections and document CAPAs for automation deviations.
• Perform light duties as needed and collaborate across sections.
