Job summary

Jefferson Health in Philadelphia seeks a Biomedical Equipment Technician to perform advanced maintenance on biomedical and clinical data/network systems, including installation, testing, calibration, and repair.

Responsibilities include completing PM workloads, safety checks, cost-effective parts sourcing, maintaining technical literature, ensuring regulatory compliance, and training staff on equipment and electrical safety.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field; or 2 years of related experience.
• 1 year progressive experience performing electronic/electromechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment.
• Ability to perform component-level repairs at least 35% of the time.
• Proficient in repair and preventive maintenance of anesthesia machines, gas analyzers, blood cell savers, and diagnostic ultrasound machines.
• Knowledge of QA procedures and preventive maintenance procedures.
• Ability to use service documentation, manuals, and parts specification materials to test and repair equipment.
• Strong teamwork, self-motivation, and ability to handle changing priorities.
• Willingness to visit multiple locations as required.

Performs preventive maintenance, quality assurance inspections, installation, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance on biomedical, clinical data/network systems, and related technologies.

Job Duties

• Completes the preventive maintenance (PM) workload to achieve a consistently high level of PM compliance over time.
• Provides safety checks, repairs, and installations of biomedical and communications equipment.
• Identifies and obtains supplies and other materials required to service, maintain, and repair equipment at the lowest possible cost.
• Establishes and maintains supporting technical literature such as manufacturer's literature, references standards, specifications, and other documents necessary for supporting the biomedical program.
• Ensures that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality control standards.
• Makes effective presentations to small groups of peers to ensure staff remains up to date on new trends.
• Provides in-service and training on biomedical equipment and electrical safety.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields or
• High School Diploma/GED along with 2 years of progressive experience performing electronic and/or electromechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on both general and specialized biomedical equipment will be considered in lieu of degree.
• 1 year progressive experience performing electronic and/or electromechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on both general and specialized biomedical equipment.
• Ability to perform component level repairs at least 35% of the time.
• Proficient in the repair and preventive maintenance of the following devices: Anesthesia Machines, Anesthetic Gas Analyzers, Blood Cell Savers, and the Diagnostic Ultrasound machines.
• Knowledge of state-of-the-art electronic and test equipment, quality assurance procedures, and preventive maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of source, use, and applications of alternative parts providers as related to electronic or electromechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of computer software-based work order tracking systems.
• Ability to use vendor-supplied service documentation, technical manuals, and general electronics industry parts specification materials in order to test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair assigned equipment and related systems.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and to be self motivated and self disciplined.
• Effectively deals with multiple and changing priorities.
• Must be able to visit multiple business locations. (Dependent on employment location)

Additional Qualifications

• Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
• 2 years progressive experience performing electronic and/or electromechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on both general and specialized biomedical equipment.
• CBET - Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician - Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Upon Hire
• DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
