Job summary

SEARHC in Southeast Alaska seeks a Biomedical Technician to maintain and repair high-priority medical and non-medical equipment across multiple facilities. You will diagnose on-site, confer with care givers, and implement solutions, including alternative operation modes when needed.

Requires an Associates in Biomedical Technology or Electronics or equivalent; CBET certification and valid driver's license; rural Alaska experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher in Biomedical Technology or Electronics, or equivalent military training.
• CBET certification and a valid driver’s license are required.
• Rural Alaska biomedical technician experience is preferred.
• Bachelor’s in engineering is preferred and certification may be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repair on biomedical and non-medical equipment.
• Maintain/repair imaging, radiology, CT, MRI, ultrasound, laboratory, and related systems.
• Coordinate repairs and installation of medical equipment at SEARHC facilities.
• Install new medical and non-medical equipment and systems at SEARHC facilities.
• Conduct pre-purchase analyses and evaluations of new equipment for medical staff.
• Train staff on electrical safety hazards and proper operation of equipment.

Job description

Pay Range:

Pay Range:$34.15 - $47.93Maintain medical and non-medical equipment located at SEARHC and other designated facilities throughout Southeast Alaska

The position requires the technician to work on the highest priority life saving medical equipment in emergency situations at all locations. The technician must have the ability to confer with the care giver, diagnose the equipment problem, repair on site if possible and/or offer solutions such as different modes of equipment operation or alternative equipment available.

As equipment with new medical technologies is incorporated into the medical equipment inventory, the technician is required to upgrade his technical knowledge and skills to match that equipment. The position requires the technician to develop maintenance procedures for all new medical equipment and maintain/repair that equipment.

Must be able to walk extensively on uneven terrain or slippery surfaces, work while bending, stooping, or reaching, can lift up to 50 pounds, and safely work on equipment in unstable conditions.

• Perform preventive maintenance and repair on at least one of the following specialized equipment categories:
  • Imaging
  • Radiology Systems (radiography, fluoroscopy, or mammography)

  • Magnetic resonance Imaging
  • Diagnostic Ultrasound
  • Laboratory
  • Automated Chemistry Analyzers

Education

Certifications, and Licenses Required

• Associates Degree in Biomedical Technology or Electronics
• OR
• Equivalent military training
• OR
• Successful completion of a Biomedical Technician program
• OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering preferred and with a Bachelor Degree, certification requirement below can be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) by the International Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology
• Valid driver's license and remain insurable under the SEARHC automobile insurance policy.

Experience Required

Experience working as a Biomedical Technician in rural Alaska is preferred.
