Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 credits in electronics/biomedical equipment technology with 1 year of related experience
• High school diploma and 3 years of related experience; or equivalent training and experience. Note: credential equivalency accepted.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes schematics and wiring diagrams to locate malfunctions in computer-based equipment.

HOURLY RANGE: $27.45 - $39.47

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves the installation, maintenance and repair of computer-based, electronic and electromechanical hospital biomedical equipment at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). This is a technical position responsible for the maintenance, repair and operation of hospital biomedical equipment and the calibration of mini and micro based computer systems. Work is performed under the general supervision of higher-ranking Biomedical Engineering personnel. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities

• Tests, installs, maintains and repairs biomedical equipment such as, hemodialysis machines, infusion pumps, water treatment systems, monitors, electronic physiological monitoring equipment, audio video and communication equipment;
• Analyzes computer-based physiological and mechanical monitor and electronic equipment schematics and wiring diagrams to locate defective circuits and sources of malfunctions;
• Performs the calibration of electronic components and other parts for the repair of computer-based monitor systems and electronic equipment;
• Assembles purchased monitor and electronic equipment;
• Tests new equipment for accuracy and proper operation;
• Assists in the interfacing of all patient monitoring equipment data output to network servers and wireless communications;
• Orders and inventories replacement parts and maintenance supplies;
• Documents all inspections, preventive maintenance and repair work;
• Ensures test equipment is calibrated and operating properly;
• Maintains beds, carts and other equipment as assigned.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of the tools, terminology, procedures and equipment required for the maintenance, repair, operation, testing and calibration of modern complex computer-based monitor systems and electronic equipment; good knowledge of the hazards, applicable safety standards and performance requirements related to hospital instrumentation for patient care; skill in the use of testing and calibration devices such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital multimeters and special instrumentation for testing computer based medical instruments; ability to service and repair various types of electronic and electromechanical equipment; ability to read and interpret electric and electronic drawings, diagrams and operational specifications, ability to correct complex technical difficulties; ability to work with others; good communication skills; initiative; resourcefulness; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of an Associate’s degree* or sixty (60) credit hours* in electronics, biomedical equipment technology, industrial technology, engineering or related field and one (1) year of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; or:
• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; or:
• An equivalent training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
