Job Summary
Biomedical Imaging Specialist II – provides advanced levels of equipment and/or departmental service and support. Performs preventive maintenance, quality assurance inspections, installation, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance on one or more categories of specialized biomedical, imaging equipment, clinical data/network systems, and related technologies.
Responsibilities
- Complete the preventive maintenance (PM) workload to achieve a consistently high level of PM compliance over time.
- Provide safety checks, repairs, and installations of biomedical and communications equipment.
- Identify and obtain supplies and other materials required to service, maintain, and repair equipment at the lowest possible cost.
- Establish and maintain supporting technical literature such as manufacturer’s literature, references standards, specifications, and other documents necessary for supporting the biomedical program.
- Ensure that the biomedical equipment follows applicable regulatory requirements and quality control standards.
- Make effective presentations to small groups of peers to keep staff up to date on new trends.
- Provide in-service and training on biomedical equipment and electrical safety.
- Periodically conform to a flexible work schedule on an as-needed basis.
- Participate in on‑call rotation and upgrade support.
- Participate in continuous performance improvement initiatives related to medical equipment use.
- Review FDA, ECRI, manufacturer, and/or other device recall and problem notification sources to verify coverage of equipment.
- Review incident reports related to equipment malfunction or misuse and take appropriate actions to ensure patient safety.
- Attend vendor‑sponsored technical training service schools.
- Complete special projects and other duties in support of the hospital system as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art electronic and test equipment, quality assurance procedures, and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of source, use, and applications of alternative parts providers as related to electronic or electromechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of advanced troubleshooting techniques.
- Knowledge of computer software‑based work order tracking systems.
- Ability to use vendor‑supplied service documentation, technical manuals, and general electronics industry parts and specification materials to test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair assigned equipment and related systems.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and to be self‑motivated and self‑disciplined.
- Effectively deal with multiple and changing priorities.
- Ability to visit multiple business locations (dependent on employment location) and travel to remote hospital sites.
- Willingness to conform to a flexible work schedule on an as‑needed basis.
Education
High School Diploma. Preferred: Attendance on equipment‑specific training courses related to the equipment‑specific specialty area of expertise (extensive hands‑on experience may be considered equivalent to specific training courses).
Experience
3 years progressive experience in performing direct component and/or board level repair and maintenance on both general and model‑specific equipment in the medical imaging field. Preferred: 5 years of progressive experience in performing direct component and/or board level repair and maintenance on both general and model‑specific equipment in the medical imaging field. Additional training in other modalities such as anesthesia, ultrasound, X‑ray, cath lab, etc.
Licenses and Certifications
- Preferred: CRES – Radiology Equipment Specialist Military (DoD) Biomedical Equipment Technician certification.
- Vendor and manufacturer (OEM) repair/training certification(s) or similar credentials.
Additional Experience
Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.

Work Schedule and Requirements
- Standard support hours are Monday to Friday 7:00am to 6:00pm (8‑hour day / split shift).
- Shift1: 7:00am to 3:30pm; Shift2: 9:30am to 6:00pm.
- Some after‑hours, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
- Some positions may be responsible for multiple locations in the same geographic area.
- Site‑to‑site travel may be required.
- Flexible work schedule required to accommodate early morning or evening repairs as needed.
- Participate in a weekly on‑call rotation for after‑hours and weekend support.
Salary Range
$41.92 to $59.73 per hour. The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
