Biomedical Equipment Technician Team Lead
Location: Pennsylvania and surrounding states
Duration: 6 weeks
The BMDI Lead – Technical Resource is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and support of Biomedical Device Integration (BMDI) initiatives across the health system. This role ensures the seamless and secure integration of medical devices with Epic (EHR) and other clinical systems, enabling accurate, real-time data capture and improved patient outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biomedical engineering, IT networking, and clinical systems, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams in healthcare environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical planning, architecture design, and implementation of BMDI solutions across the health system.
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for device integration, including protocols (HL7, FHIR, IEEE 11073, etc.), middleware platforms (e.g., Masimo, Capsule, Cerner CareAware, iSirona), and device communication standards.
- Collaborate with clinical, IT, biomedical engineering, and vendor stakeholders to assess integration needs and device capabilities.
- Coordinate the integration of devices such as vital signs monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, anesthesia machines, and other critical care equipment.
- Develop and manage project plans, risk assessments, validation testing, and go-live support for BMDI implementations.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of devices, their integration status, and interface configurations.
- Monitor data quality, system performance, and troubleshoot interface or data transmission issues.
- Ensure compliance with patient safety, cybersecurity, HIPAA, and relevant regulatory standards.
- Provide documentation, training, and support to clinical and technical teams on integrated device workflows.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in biomedical device integration or clinical systems integration in a healthcare setting.
- Proven experience with integration engines (e.g., Mirth, Rhapsody), middleware (e.g., Capsule, iSirona), and EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
- Experience with medical device communication protocols and standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, IEEE 11073, TCP/IP).
- Project management experience in healthcare IT or biomedical domains.
Certifications (preferred but not required):
- CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician)
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- Epic Bridges or other EHR integration certifications
Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Excellent documentation and organizational abilities.
Working Conditions
- Requires work in clinical settings, patient care areas, and equipment rooms.
- May require lifting or moving equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional after-hours or weekend work for maintenance, upgrades, or go-lives.
