Job summary

The Orlando VA Healthcare System is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BEES) at the full performance level within Healthcare Technology Management (HTM). This role troubleshoots and performs planned maintenance on a wide range of medical devices and clinical systems to support patient care.

Qualifications include education or certification in biomedical technology or related fields, English proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple assignments and coordinate with vendors.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required or eligibility per VA policy
• English language proficiency (spoken and written) required
• Education/Experience documentation must meet one of listed paths
• Associates or higher degree in biomedical tech/engineering or related field with related experience
• DOD training or certificate programs with related experience
• Possession or prior holding of CBET/CRES/CLES/CHTM
• Flexibility to manage multiple assignments and work with vendors
• Knowledge of NFPA, FDA, TJC, and AAMI standards for safe operation
• Ability to troubleshoot using test equipment and interpret schematics
• Ability to maintain medical computers and networks
• Ability to coordinate contractor actions and perform COR duties

Responsibilities

• Manages lifecycle of medical equipment and clinical systems
• Troubleshoots and performs PM on devices and systems
• Documents actions in CMMS
• Responds to hazard alerts and recalls
• Monitors backups and network connectivity
• Provides customer support and staff education
• May serve as COR or purchase card holder
• Ensures compliance with standards and regulatory requirements

Associates or higher degree in electronics/information technology/engineering (not biomedical) + 1 year experience

DOD biomedical equipment technician training or DOD IT repair training

HTM or biomedical engineering certificate with internship

CBET/CRES/CLES/CHTM certification
