Job summary

Jefferson Health is seeking an experienced Biomedical Equipment Technician to perform preventive maintenance, testing, calibration, and repair of medical equipment at Abington, PA facilities.

The role requires reviewing QA procedures, leading equipment evaluations, and coordinating with vendors on bids and capital purchases while ensuring patient safety and uptime through on-call support and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• Experience performing PM, QA inspections, installation, testing, calibration, repair on medical equipment.
• Ability to review recalls and incident reports and ensure patient safety.
• Willingness to participate in on-call support and flexible schedules.

Responsibilities

• Completes PM workload to achieve high PM compliance over time.
• Reviews, modifies, develops, and implements PM manuals and QA testing procedures.
• Reviews incident reports related to equipment malfunction to ensure patient safety.
• Leads new equipment evaluations, acquisitions, and installations.
• Obtains quotes and works with bids and capital purchases.
• Assesses repairs to cost-effectively maximize equipment uptime.
• Seeks value in products, labor and parts to minimize total service cost.
• Provides in-service training to clinical engineering technicians.
• Leads continuous improvement initiatives related to medical equipment use.
• Prioritizes scheduled maintenance per maintenance policy.
• Responds to maintenance requests; performs initial assessment and troubleshooting.
• Reviews recalls to verify equipment coverage.
• Conforms to a flexible work schedule and participates in on-call rotation.

Provides advanced levels of equipment and/or departmental service and support. Performs preventive maintenance, quality assurance inspections, installation, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance on biomedical, clinical data/network systems, and related technologies.

Job Description

• Completes the preventive maintenance (PM) workload to achieve a consistently high level of PM compliance over time.
• Reviews, modifies, develops, and implements written preventive maintenance manuals and quality assurance testing procedures for medical equipment.
• Reviews incident reports related to equipment malfunction or misuse and takes appropriate actions to ensure patient safety.
• Leads new equipment evaluations, acquisitions, and installations.
• Obtains quotes through current requisition processes and works with technical specifications related to bids and capital purchases.
• Exercises proper judgment in evaluating the extent/source of repairs on malfunctioning equipment and determines the course of action needed to cost-effectively maximize equipment uptime.
• Seeks out best value products and labor and parts sources to minimize the total cost of service to the organization.
• Provides in-service training to other clinical engineering service technicians.
• Leads continuous performance improvement initiatives related to medical equipment use.
• Prioritizes scheduled maintenance in accordance with medical equipment maintenance management policy.
• Responds to requests for maintenance services from equipment users; performs initial assessment, problem verification, and troubleshooting.
• Reviews FDA, ECRI, manufacturer, and/or other device recall and problem notification sources to verify if any of the covered equipment falls within the problem equipment listings.
• Periodically conforms to a flexible work schedule on an as-needed basis.
• Participates in on-call rotation and upgrade support.
