Job summary

Goldbelt Apex, part of the Healthcare Technology Transformation Group, seeks a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) to analyze and solve design, development, and safety testing issues for medical equipment. This role supports maintenance-related acquisitions, fielding, and sustainment of medical devices and monitoring systems.

The BMET may provide leadership or supervisory oversight to other BMETs and will ensure compliance with regulatory standards while managing equipment documentation and

  • Has comprehensive knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment.
  • Experience leading, scheduling work and mentoring others.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing Military Medical Equipment.
  • Experience performing complex inspections of Army medical equipment.
  • Experience with medical equipment overhaul.
  • Proven technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure biomedical equipment complies with Federal/State standards and manage budgets and vendor relationships.
  • Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect complex medical equipment and systems.
  • Use Army systems like DMLSS, SAMS-E, TEWLS, GCSS and related authorized tools.
  • Supervise routine repairs and inspections and oversee subordinates as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing on clinical equipment.
  • Review maintenance actions and recommend improvements to the department.
  • Inspect new, used, or reconditioned equipment and plan maintenance actions.

Summary

A Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) uses traditional engineering expertise to analyze and solve problems regarding the design, development, and safety testing of biomedical equipment. They serve as the principal action officer for maintenance related acquisition support, fielding, and sustainment of medical laboratory equipment, contact patient monitoring systems, and digital imaging/radiographic equipment. May provide leadership and/or supervisory oversight to other BMETs.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
  • Ensure that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with Federal, State, and/or applicable regulatory requirements; implement quality control standards and maintain budget and vendor relationships
  • Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect complex medical equipment, instrumentation, and systems
  • Use authorized Army Automation Systems, which include, but are not limited to, the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS), the Standard Army Maintenance System-Enhanced (SAMS-E), Theater Enterprise-Wide Logistics System (TEWLS), Global Combat Support System (GCSS) and other systems that are specifically authorized by the USAMMA M3D
  • Assign routine repairs, inspections, and installations to subordinates and observe their performance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and systems, and monitor completion of preventive maintenance activities performed by outside vendors (when applicable)
  • Review outcome of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements
  • Perform complex technical inspections of new, used or reconditioned military medical equipment.
  • Recommend new equipment and testing procedures
  • Maintain documentation on new equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures
  • Understand and comply with Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations
  • Determine and verify associated support items of equipment in order to perform scheduled services and maintenance repairs and calibration; supply support and provisioning requirements; and training requirements
  • Manage special operations fielding support
  • Monitor sustainment support
  • Provide technical expertise and specific plans in the creation, interpretation, and explanation of operations and maintenance policy
  • Identify elements and requirements for improving the maintenance posture of medical equipment
  • Responsible for the development, review and execution of the maintenance support plans and sustainment strategies
  • Respond to inquiries and answers questions relating to technical and operational applications
  • Investigate sources of needed equipment for designated testing and evaluations and evaluates the applicability to the laboratory's needs
  • May provide leadership and/or supervisory oversight to other BMETs
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned or required
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge
  • Has comprehensive knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and types of equipment
  • Experience as a lead, scheduling work, and/or overseeing and mentoring technical work of others
  • Experience performing biomedical equipment maintenance, repair, and maintenance cycles on Military Medical Equipment
  • Experience performing complex technical inspections of new, used or reconditioned Army medical equipment
  • Experience with medical equipment overhaul
  • Proven technical writing skills
Minimum Qualifications
  • A.A.S in Medical Equipment Technology or more advanced degree in related field or AAMI Certification (CBET), and/or graduate of DoD Medical Equipment Repairers Course
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CACard
  • Six or more years directly related experience
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
