Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and replacement of medical equipment and associated systems.

Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) II
About the Position:

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) II provides technical expertise supporting the inspection, maintenance, repair, calibration, testing, and lifecycle management of medical equipment utilized by the Army Medical Logistics Command (AMLC) Force Projection Directorate (FPD).

The position directly supports Army medical readiness by ensuring medical devices and equipment assigned to Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS), Unit Deployment Packages (UDP), Medical Materiel Readiness Program (MMRP), and other force projection assets remain fully mission capable and ready for worldwide deployment. The BMET II performs independent troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, operational testing, and repair activities while maintaining compliance with Army, Department of Defense (DoD), manufacturer, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Medical Equipment Maintenance and Repair
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and replacement of medical equipment and associated systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs), functional testing, electrical safety testing, and performance verification on a wide range of medical devices.
  • Interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, manufacturer specifications, and maintenance procedures to diagnose equipment malfunctions.
  • Independently identify equipment failures and implement corrective actions to restore operational readiness.
Medical Readiness Support
  • Support the maintenance and readiness of medical equipment assigned to APS, UDP, MMRP, and other operational medical materiel programs.
  • Inspect medical equipment during inventory, storage, issue, receipt, and deployment operations to verify serviceability and mission readiness.
  • Assist in preparing medical equipment for deployment, redistribution, reconstitution, and sustainment operations.
  • Support readiness assessments and equipment modernization initiatives.
Equipment Accountability and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, calibration records, repair documentation, and equipment history files.
  • Document maintenance activities using Government-approved systems and databases.
  • Track maintenance schedules, repair status, service contracts, warranties, and equipment lifecycle information.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations regarding equipment condition, replacement requirements, and operational readiness.
Vendor and Technical Support Coordination
  • Coordinate with manufacturers, vendors, depot-level maintenance facilities, and service contractors for specialized repairs and technical assistance.
  • Monitor and verify completion of contracted maintenance services.
  • Provide technical recommendations regarding equipment procurement, replacement, sustainment, and maintenance strategies.
  • Assist Government personnel with evaluating equipment performance and supportability.
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Army, DoD, Joint Commission, FDA, NFPA, and manufacturer standards, as applicable.
  • Participate in quality assurance inspections and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability and availability.
  • Support inventory management and accountability efforts for medical equipment assets.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Medical Equipment Technology, Electronics Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting biomedical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing preventive maintenance, electrical safety testing, calibration, and repairs on medical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, schematics, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of biomedical equipment maintenance principles, diagnostics, calibration, and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment inventory management, maintenance documentation, and lifecycle support processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment malfunctions and identify root causes.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and support multiple mission requirements simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety and equipment reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification.
  • Experience supporting Army Medical Logistics Command (AMLC), Defense Health Agency (DHA), Department of Defense medical treatment facilities, or military medical logistics organizations.
  • Familiarity with Army medical readiness programs, APS operations, and deployable medical systems.
  • Experience supporting fielding, deployment, and sustainment of medical equipment in operational environments.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, FDA, and Army medical equipment management requirements.
Security Requirement

The individual selected for this position must be able to obtain and maintain all required Government installation access credentials and satisfy applicable background investigation requirements necessary for contract performance. This may include a National Agency Check with Law and Credit (NACLC) / Tier 3 (T3) investigation, as required by the Government.
