Job summary

Decypher in the United States seeks a Biomedical Equipment Technician to test, calibrate, inspect, and repair medical devices per manufacturer specs and safety rules. You will maintain equipment records, assess condition and serviceability, and support procurement activities across federal facilities.

The role requires an associate degree or CBET certification, a current driver’s license, BLS, and color vision; 2 years' related experience is expected.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in biomedical equipment technology or engineering, or a current holder of a nationally recognized Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certification.
• Valid driver’s license is required for the position in order to obtain authorization to drive a government motor vehicle to service medical equipment that may be located in other buildings.
• Basic Life Support (BLS); Nationally recognized Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certification; color vision test.

Responsibilities

• Test and calibrate components using manufacturers' manuals and troubleshooting techniques, hand tools, power tools and measuring devices.
• Keep records of maintenance, repair, and required updates of equipment.
• Inspect and test malfunctioning medical and related equipment following manufacturers' specifications, using test and analysis instruments.
• Disassemble malfunctioning equipment and remove, repair and replace defective parts such as motors, transformers, and circuit boards.
• Perform preventive maintenance or service such as cleaning, lubricating and adjusting equipment in accordance with OEM specifications.
• Test, evaluate, and classify excess or in-use medical equipment and determine serviceability, condition, and disposition in accordance with regulations.
• Examine medical equipment and the facility's structural environment and check for proper use of equipment, to protect patients and staff from electrical or mechanical hazards. Ensures compliance with safety regulations and policies.
• Study technical manuals and attend training sessions provided by equipment manufacturers to maintain current knowledge.
• Provide training to medical staff by explaining and demonstrating correct operation and operator preventive maintenance of medical equipment.
• Assists in review of equipment procurement packages

Job Summary: The Biomedical Equipment Technician tests, calibrates, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, safety regulations, and organizational policies. The role also maintains equipment records, evaluates equipment condition and serviceability, supports equipment procurement, and trains medical staff on the safe and proper operation and maintenance of medical equipment.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: An associate degree in biomedical equipment technology or engineering, or a current holder of a nationally recognized Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certification.
• Certifications:

  • Must pass a color vision test.
• Experience: 2 years’ experience in inspection, PM, calibration, and repair of medical equipment to include but not to: Defibrillators, infusion pumps, physiological monitors, ESU/ECU units

Work Environment & Schedule: Onsite, Monday- Friday, 7'30am - 4:30 with a one-hour lunch. No overtime, no call backs. Federal holidays - 11 paid.

Compensation & Benefits: Up to $ 38.10 per hour + H&W IF APPLICABLE

Physical requirements: The biomedical equipment technician frequently is required to lift, carry or otherwise, handle, items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) with occasional encounters involving items greater than 18 kilograms. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and working in cramped and awkward positions for prolonged periods.
